Enough to need

by Dave on August 13, 2008

Dear God,

Never allow me to think that I have knowledge enough to need no teaching,

wisdom enough to need no correction,

talents enough to need no grace,

goodness enough to need no progress,

humility enough to need no repentance,

devotion enough to need no improvement,

strength sufficient without Thy Spirit,

lest, standing still, I fall back forevermore

Happy, Joyous and Free

by Dave on August 6, 2008

I am sure You want me to be happy, joyous and free.

With Your help I will no longer believe that life has no meaning and is filled with sorrow.

You, the Twelve Steps, and our Fellowship have shown me that I made my own misery.

You didn’t do it.

I pray I will avoid the deliberate manufacture of misery.

But, if trouble comes, I will cheerfully make it an opportunity to demonstrate your wisdom and power.

This I Believe

by Dave on August 4, 2008

Tomorrow is yet to be,

But should God grant me another day,

The Hope, Courage, and Strength

Through the working of the Twelve Steps and Serenity Prayer,

I shall be sufficiently provided for to meet my every need.

This I believe.

Humility Prayer

by Dave on August 3, 2008

Lord, I am far too much influenced by what people think of me;

Which means that I am always pretending to be either richer or smarter than I really am. Please, prevent me from trying to attract attention.

Don’t let me gloat over praise on the on the one hand and be discouraged by criticism on the other, nor let me waste time weaving the most imaginary situations in which the heroic, charming, witty person present is myself.

Show me how to be humble at heart.

Open Mind

by Dave on August 3, 2008

Higher Power, may I understand:

To be alert to my own needs, not to the faults of others;

To remain teachable;

To listen;

To keep an open mind; and

To learn now who’s right but what’s right.
