“I thought for the first year that the line in the Big Book that says “We avoid retaliation and argument.” should end with a comma, not a period.
My prior life completed the sentence with “, unless they are getting in my face.” or “, except when they tried to rip me off.” or “, except when they needed straightening out.” . . . well, you get the idea!
