Proposing Changes to the First 164 Pages of the Big Book
New Proposed PAI
A group in our Area has proposed the following Proposed Agenda Item (PAI) for consideration at the next General Service Conference in 2027.
“That Article 3 of the “Current Conference Charter” (United States and Canada) be amended to include “The Doctor’s Opinion,” and the first 164 pages, as published in the Fourth Edition of Alcoholics Anonymous, affording the same protections to this text as are extended to the Twelve Steps, Twelve Traditions, and the Warranties in Concept XII.”
Note: This would mean, generally, that the Doctor’s Opinion and the first 164 pages of the Big Book could not be amended without the written consent of three-quarters of A.A. groups. Currently, the Conference may amend these items with a 2/3 vote of Conference Delegates.
This item will be added for discussion at a future Hope Group Conscience Meeting- keep an eye on the Group Conscience board in the big meeting room and at the https://hopegroupaa.org/ for more information about this item. Members who attend Group Conscience meetings can also always raise this or any AA issues as New Business.
